DNA tests on the body of a man killed in Jakarta prove beyond doubt he is Dulmatin, the last main suspect of the Bali bombings, Indonesian police say.

Police chief Bambang Hendarso Danuri said bomb-making equipment had been found during the raid in the capital.

Dulmatin was suspected of planning the 2002 attacks which killed 202 people.

News of Dulmatin’s death had been announced earlier by Indonesia’s President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, during talks in Australia.

About half of those killed in Bali were Australian, and officials there have praised Indonesia’s anti-terror operations.

Police had initially not determined whether the man they killed at an internet cafe in the capital on Tuesday was Dulmatin – there have been previous cases where bodies were incorrectly believed to be those of terror suspects.

Three Weekly Flights by TransNusa to Connect Ende and Bali.

Aviastar Airways has commenced flights between Bali and Ende on the island of Flores.

INDONESIAN authorities are standing by claims Australian diplomats cautioned them about the political sensitivities of executing members of the Bali Nine in an election year.

Despite denials from Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Acting Foreign Minister Simon Crean, Indonesian attorney-general’s office spokesman Didiek Darmanto said the report in Thursday’s Fairfax newspapers was correct.

“They admitted that for the upcoming election, the issue of the death sentences is a sensitive issue,” Mr Darmanto said.

Mr Darmanto said the issue was discussed during a “courtesy visit” by the embassy’s new political counsellor, Paul Griffiths.

“They didn’t ask for the death sentence execution to be postponed because of the election, but they just needed to understand the process,” Mr Darmanto said. …click here to read more
